Kargil Victory Day occupies a particular position in Indian history as a monumental milestone when our country triumphed over Pakistan in the bloody struggle of 1999. On July 26 of every year, we honor our brave warriors’ unyielding sacrifices and unflinching bravery for valiantly defending our nation during the brutal and protracted battle.

Amidst the backdrop of a contentious dispute over the liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, two neighboring nations found themselves embroiled in hostilities that spanned several years. However, it was in 1999 that tensions reached a critical juncture when both countries conducted nuclear tests. Seeking peaceful resolutions and bilateral dialogue, India extended a hand of friendship with the Lahore Declaration in February 1999

Honoring the Bravery and Sacrifices of Indian Soldiers

The Pakistani military started undertaking covert operations during the chilly winters of 1998–1999, deploying rebels inside the districts of Kargil and Le Ladakh from across the Border of Control (LOC). However, our brave warriors displayed unwavering commitment, fearlessly pushing back their advances and reclaiming control over crucial areas. Their noble sacrifice strengthened the groundwork for border protection and emphasized how crucial it is to defend the welfare of our citizens. Their valor and courage became instrumental in addressing security and strengthening our nation.

The Kargil war happened between May to July 1999 in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, in the the memory of Kargil war martyrs The Kargil War memorial was built by Indian Army at the foothills of Tololing Hill in Dras.
