The Pakistani military started undertaking covert operations during the chilly winters of 1998–1999, deploying rebels inside the districts of Kargil and Le Ladakh from across the Border of Control (LOC). The Kargil war happened between May to July 1999 in Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. Later, in the the memory of Kargil war martyrs The Kargil War memorial was built by Indian Army at the foothills of Tololing Hill in Dras.
